TikTok arranging 2 additional server farms in Europe in the midst of information security concerns

TikTok has announced plans to build two more data centers in Europe, in addition to the data center it already operates in Ireland, in an effort to address data security concerns and comply with local data protection regulations. The new data centers will be located in Denmark and are expected to be operational in early 2022.

TikTok has faced scrutiny from regulators and lawmakers around the world over concerns about its handling of user data and potential ties to the Chinese government. In response, the company has sought to reassure users and regulators by investing in data security measures, including building new data centers in Europe.

The new data centers in Denmark will provide additional capacity and redundancy for TikTok’s European operations, which currently rely on the company’s data center in Ireland. By storing data locally in Europe, TikTok hopes to address concerns about the security of user data and comply with local data protection laws, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union.

TikTok has also announced plans to open a “transparency center” in the United States, where external experts will be able to review the company’s content moderation policies, data privacy practices, and security measures.

Overall, TikTok’s plans to build new data centers in Europe reflect a growing trend among technology companies to invest in data security and comply with local data protection regulations. As concerns about data privacy and security continue to mount, companies will likely face increasing pressure to demonstrate their commitment to protecting user data.
